Description:
Looking for a Substation Designer to design new or modify design of existing electrical distribution and transmission substations or switching stations. Assists in the development and evaluation of station layout alternatives and selection of appropriate layout considering input from many diverse sources. Provides physical, electrical, and control designs for construction. Responsible for all drawings and specifications used for construction. Initiates request for and supports permitting processes required. Works with Protection Engineering department; they guide our P&C work with Protection and Integration Design documents that specify inputs, outputs, and analogs in our power relays and SCADA gear. Also contains rough schematics and block diagrams for our work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
- QA/QC is of paramount importance. Yellow lining is a key skill.
- Works on voltages from 120V (station service) up to 230 kV (backbone of transmission). Works on small jobs (e.g. recloser replacements) all the way up to greenfield transmission yard builds.
- Uses our Design Practices Manual to guide their work. DPM does not have all aspects of work defined, so also uses “go-bys” from recent sites and our standard schematic drawing set when applicable. Must be willing to call other engineers and ask questions as necessary.
- Receives equipment drawings from our engineers and convert them to the utilities standard look, then connects them to AC/DC/control wiring as necessary.
- Works with Drafting department to get markups applied in AutoCAD and design packages transmitted to the field.
- Works with Protection Engineering department; they guide our P&C work with Protection and Integration Design documents that specify inputs, outputs, and analogs in our power relays and SCADA gear. Also contains rough schematics and block diagrams for our work.
- Works with Distribution and Transmission Engineering departments on substation connections

This opportunity will be specifically supporting work with one of our newer partnerships out of Eastern Washington. You will work primarily with the substation group supporting protection and controls design/engineering.
Work Environment:
Mountain or PST time zone preferred
- 40 hours a week, core hours 9am-3pm PST
- Initial work will require travel to Spokane, WA to work alongside our customer. Duration will be dependent on learning curve.
- Once up and running the work can be performed fully remote. (light travel down the road but not required)
- Will require you to frequently reach out to engineers and department leads to complete projects
